It’s kind of a gross musty day. The sky is all one gross shade of light grey, and amazingly, this airport is basically empty. I got here a bit earlier than I should have thinking I’d have to wait longer to get through security, but there were 3 people going through security when I did. No joke. It’s eerily empty.

I don’t know how I feel about going home. Back in September, I had to beg my parents to fly me home. They thought the ticket was too expensive, and wanted me to stay on campus haha, but I couldn’t imagine sticking around the empty campus. And now that I am actually flying home, I can’t imagine going home. Whaaat? I’ve been in college for three months?!

What is “home” exactly? My roommate Allie and I used to correct people when they referred to dorm rooms as “home” because clearly, that’s not home! But now that I think about it, it really is. Bloomington Indiana has stolen my heart away with its beautiful campus and wonderful people and I can’t imagine being anywhere else. It’s being able to walk down the hall of my dorm and just to say hello, to stroll across the perfect sized campus with The Beatles music blasting in my ears, and the ability to walk past the bagel stand and know at least one familiar face. Life makes me giddy.

Being over 2000 miles away from home hasn’t helped either. My roommate has gone home at least 5 times just for weekends (She lives in South Bend, 4 hours north) and most of my friends are just driving home for break whenever they feel like it. I can’t imagine what it’ll be like walking into my house for the first time in 3 months, but from what I’ve heard, showing without shoes on will be an experience like no other! This post is going all over the place. Mind you, I’m just spitting my thoughts out.

HAHA some asian guy sitting on the terminal bench next to me is taking pictures of the airplanes through the window. Hehe.

I’m really nervous. Can’t put my finger on why though. The baby white mocha I got with my meal points this morning probably doesn’t help either.

Alright imma peace now. I should really blog more often. I wrote one a couple of weeks ago but its still saved in my drafts folder. I was never really satisfied with it to publish it. Maybe I’ll polish it and put it up over break. Maybe.

I feel short.

I started this blog back in December (re-reading that previous post made me laugh) but I never really got to active blogging so I kinda just swept it under the rug. But now that I’m in a totally new environment, here’s a good place for spitting out random thoughts.

I’ve been here in Bloomington, Indiana since Monday, August 24th. I shipped two boxes of stuff over from the week before containing my blanket and my pillow and some winter jackets, so they were here waiting for me when I got here. I flew over myself, with my gigantic rolling duffel full of clothes that I couldn’t get off the baggage claim carousel on the first heave. Kind of embarrassing. Everyone just stood and watched too! Hmph. Oh yeah, for those of you who ask me “So where is Indiana?” NO its not in the middle of nowhere! The campus is a lot like UC Santa Cruz actually. It’s set in the rolling hills and there are lots of trees everywhere. The big forest kind. AND THERES ONLY CORN IN THE RURAL AREAS!

There ya go! Bloomington is an hour south of Indianapolis where I fly to. I started this frequent flier thing with Frontier Airlines which always stops in Denver. But its okay because it’s cheap. Anyways, after landing in Indianapolis, I take a shuttle to Bloomington which drops me off right in front of my dorm!

Class starts tomorrow, but it’s been interesting so far! I’m here to get a business degree with the Kelley School of Business, and was lucky enough to get into the Kelley Living Learning Center. So my whole dorm 4 floors, 250 students are all business majors. I guess it’s good in the way that we all take the same classes and were all kinda on the same page. We had a retreat on Tuesday at a professors giant ranch house, and it was almost identical to Leadership retreat and Gym Jam. Plus a lot more awkward ice breakers though.

On Wednesday my roommate Allie came with me to the gigantic Target at College Mall. We hopped on bus and it took about 15 minutes, and I basically got alll my college stuff. Shower caddy, mattress pad, white board, Brita water filter pitcher, binders/notebooks/paper, hangers, shampoo/conditioner, etc. The bus stop is at the bottom of a hill and our dorm is at the top, so thanks Allie for helping me carry 6 bags of stuff all the way back.

Some random hilarious tidbits:

- Some people here have southern accents. awkward mom. They say AAAH-K WERD  MAM. Hahahaha. It’s all pretty nasally.

- You can’t buy alcohol on Sundays. Apparently Indiana is part of the “Bible belt” but I’m not sure because people were arguing about it in the hallways. Shrug.

- My room mate who is from South Bend (four hours north of Bloomington, also home of Notre Dame) says in her town everyone has horses. And the best part is… okay you know how people back home have house parties? PEOPLE IN SOUTH BEND HAVE BARN PARTIES HAHAHHA. And its exactly what it sounds like!! Someones parents are oblivious or too far away from the barn during the night, and the kids break in to drink and hang out with the horses and tractors!! Oh gosh I had a field day. Bahahhaha. Welcome to the Mid-West I suppose.

The weather is different but not significantly. It’s a lot more humid, so the nights are a bit warmer. Other than that its basically the same as Cupertino! Except… on thursday is was 85 degrees plus humidity, and at about 3 in the afternoon it starts POURING RAIN. Like no other. Then it just stopped. like within 5 seconds. It was wack.

It’s 11:30 and I’m tired. My first class (National and International Policy) is at 9:30 tomorrow so I’ve got some time to sleep in. Oh! And all the freshman got free tickets for the first football game against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night! The renovating of our stadium just finished up this summer, so this’ll be the first game in it. The new one has two decks surrounding the entire field, including the end zones. This is our old one:

At the bookstore I saw a shirt that said HOOSIER DADDY? Hehe.

Oh yeah a Hoosier is simply a person who lives/resides in the state of Indiana. Our mascot is a little man wearing IU apparel. Hahahhaha. -____- Okay I’m out. Drop me a line if you read this! Lets stay in touch.

Anyways, happy 2009! Four days late that is. Better late than never I suppose. The fact that I am 7/8ths done with high school is pretty distressing to say the least. I guess you could say that it’s finally kicked in that regardless of what I’ve done with the last 3 and a half years, it all happened and there really isn’t anything I can do about it anymore.  I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about something like that. I know I should probably just shove it away since it’s out of my control anyways, but I’m a dweller of the past. No good. Oh well. Better make the best of the last bit of it.

Today is the last day of break and I am still sitting in my pj’s trying to “Describe a book or article and explain why you like or disliked it.” Thanks University of Oregon. Also, thanks daddy for choosing a list of colleges you want me to apply to straight off rankings from U.S. News & World Report. Oh what a bitter day.

But lets recap some things I did during break! On the Friday right after the last day of finals, Kevin and I went to the San Francisco Zoo. There was a 40% of showers that day but we took our chances and I’m glad we did because it was a beautiful day:

That day marked almost a year since the Tiger indecent on Christmas Day of 2007. The zoo was eerily empty that day, but I guess that always has its pros and cons. Nobody noticed when Kevin and I…

…Now that I look back on it, we took more pictures with bronze statues of animals than real ones. Oops. Hahahaha but it was still a really fun day.

And then from the 25th to the 29th my family and four others went up to South Lake Tahoe for a couple of days.

This is my daddy. He taught me how to ski when I was six years old.

And for all the other fun things that happened, I did not bring my 35mm Lomography Fisheye Camera. I guess this concludes my first post since 8th grade or so. I blogged on my xanga like my life depended on it back then. I also almost overloaded my photobucket account. Good Times. I don’t think I remember my username or passwords for either of those, although it would be interesting to see those again now.
